ABOUT US

The Caledonian Club of Sacramento, which was established in 1876, is a nonprofit organization formed to preserve Scottish heritage.

Club membership is open to any one of Scottish birth or descent, their kin, and to any person interested in the rich and historic traditions of Scotland.

Our regional Scottish-American cultural society hosts many annual events, including the Sacramento Tartan Ball (November) and the Sacramento Valley Highland Games and Festival in Woodland (last full week-end in April).

The club’s goals and purposes are:

  • To bring together people of Scottish descent
  • Practicing and preserving Scottish traditions
  • Educating the public about Scottish traditions and heritage
  • Promoting goodwill among people of Scottish heritage and the public
  • Performing local charitable works

History of the Caledonian Club of Sacramento

In Northern California the Scots have a long and proud tradition . The Caledonian Club of Sacramento was organized in 1876 and is the second Scottish club established in California. McKinley Park was the site of the first Sacramento Scottish Games & Gathering on June 16, 1877.
The Club was formally incorporated in 1888 and a lot of information regarding it exists in state, county and city historical records. The year 1960 marked the beginning of the “modern” Caledonian Club. The Club was re-incorporated on June 8, 1983.

Organization

The business of the Caledonian Club is conducted by an elected Board of Directors consisting of a Chief, Vice Chief, Treasurer, Secretary, Sergeant at Arms, Director at Large Social and Director at Large Membership.

Membership Information Membership in the Club is open to any one of Scottish birth or descent, their kin and to any other person interested in the rich cultural and historic traditions of Scotland.

Annual dues for membership in the Caledonian Club of Sacramento are as follows:
$40 for a single member
$50 for a family membership

Other fees as follows:
$10 charge for newsletter only
$40 dues for family age 65+
$30 dues for single age 65+
